I Decree And Declare…
I bet you have heard this many times, in your church, at a crusade, or on the TV where some TV evangelist with boldness proclaimed a declaration in your life and all you had to do was to say “amen” in order for it to come to pass, yet, you still don’t see that declaration happen in your life. You have even been told that you ought to make declarations in the name of our dear Lord Jesus and that whatever you wish would be done unto you. But then, love, is this what the scripture commands us to do?

I decree and declare in the name of Jesus that healing is coming to your body! I decree and declare that next year by this time your finances shall be multiplied 10 fold! — All you’ve got to do is to believe by faith and you’re good to go. Some preachers go ahead to say an absurd thing like, “If your amen is louder than your neighbour’s amen, your blessings shall come quickly.”
What is a decree? A decree is an official order issued by a legal authority. Keywords: Legal Authority
For a decree to be official which means it can be executed, the person issuing the decree must have the authority and the right to pronounce the order. Without that authority or power, a decree is worthless.
Here’s an example: I don’t like the E-Levy Ghana wants to introduce as Mobile Money taxes. Because I do not like this, I decree that the e-levy be canceled in the name of Jesus with a megaphone in my hand. While this may be what I want, I cannot enforce it. Why? Because I do not have the legal authority or any authority for that matter to make it happen.
To Declare is to make something known officially.
Mark 11:23–24 is mostly used for a topic like this. Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted to him. Therefore, I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted to you.
This certainly does not contradict what the Word of the Lord says when we are told to ask various times in different places in scripture and not once decree a thing to come to pass.
Scripture encourages us to ask, not decree. As Christians, we know One who has authority. We do not decree in His authority.

In Matthew 6, we see Jesus teaching us that He knows what we need before we ask Him, not declare. Matthew 7:7 encourages us to ask and it shall be given unto us. James 4:2 tells us we have not because we ask not. 1John 5:14 tells us if we ask anything according to His will, He will hear us.
Many times we are encouraged to ask. To decree? No, not once. We are not told as Christians to demand anything from our Lord. I know, I know it can get hard. Poverty calling out to you like a brother, problems and problems and problems, and desperation kicks in, and all of a sudden you want that problem gone. Please, do not stand on the mountain top to decree… Please, seek God. Pray. Make your requests known unto our Lord [Philippians 4:6]. He will give you peace. The peace that transcends what this world offers [John 14:27].

Decreeing is centered around us and what we want and not what God wants. It does not center around God. It most times removes God’s will [which directly goes against how our Lord Jesus taught us to pray — Thy will be done].
We are subject to god’s decrees, God is not subject to ours.
Prayer is not where we decree and declare, prayer is where we ask humbly.

What a friend we have in Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear
And what a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer
Oh, what peace we often forfeit
Oh, what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer
Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged
Take it to the Lord in prayer
Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness
Take it to the Lord in prayer
Take it to the Lord in prayer folks! Take it to the Lord in prayer, please!
